COWS' PARADISE

Hello!

Apart from growing mouth watering organic produce, we are overly passionate about our dairy. We have very strong beliefs when it comes to our cows and we never compromise their wellbeing be it for the purpose of profit or efficiency.

Here is a little backstory about why we started this adventure in the first place.

The Milk Myths

The story of milk & dairy is incredibly intriguing. Our elderly always said that if a mother is unable to provide enough milk for her baby, the next best alternative for the child's growth and wellbeing was cow's milk. However, nowadays, paediatricians and doctors in general are advising mothers against this practice. What is more, intolerances towards milk and dairy products started growing amongst adults and infants. We, at Prakruthi Farms, grew a little suspicious and decided to dig a little further into the matter.

Here is the tea! Governments in the past started white revolution (a.k.a Milk Revolution) to bridge the gap between falling income of the famers and shortage of milk for the population. They perched to our farmers that the cows from the west yielded more milk than our native breeds and comparatively were superior to them. As a result, the farmers started cross breeding their Jersey and HF cows with our native breeds across the country to the extent that our own native breeds were going nearly extinct. We landed at the ironic situation where if someone wanted to rear our native breed, they had to import semen of our native breeds from western countries. Oh well!

The shortage of milk was definitely dealt with by this questionable practice, however no one really took the after effects on our health into consideration. Factory made cattle feed and hormonal injections to increase milk production didn't quite sit well with our ability to digest milk and this significantly increased the health risks for the consumer. Visuals of cows eating plastic in urban cities were a pathetic sight and sadly, still continues.

We travelled by road extensively before setting up our dairy. Our goal was to rear pure native breeds only and propagate them, which brings up a handful of ethical issues we had to accept. But we wanted to make sure we get things right, we put our cows first and our profit later.

Please refer to our FAQ page for some easy answers to some difficult questions!

The top milk producing native breeds are Gir, Sahiwal, Tharparkar, Kankrej and Red Sindhi. We have taken upon ourselves to breed these native varieties and propagate them in nearby villages to our farm.

We are encouraging families to perform GOU POOJA, on important occasions in their family. Worshiping the GOU MATHA is great for building an emotional relationship.

We have also devised a program for people who are interested in GOU SEVA. You could adopt a cow or a calf for a year or even a day and take on the feeding and cleaning the animals for that period. If you would like to do Gou Seva by adopting a cow or calf please drop us a line at the special request section and we will guide you through the process.

We wanted people to visit our dairy before buying milk from us and become part of us so that they can see the practices we follow. We wanted them to touch and feel the animals and give some love to them and create an emotional connect with the animals . They can also visit our dairy often and observe our practices regularly so that the confidence is intact. We truly believe that will change the way people start seeing milk as a commodity and prevent malpractices.

We have invited doctors, especially child specialists to visit the farm and explained our way of doing things. The responses from them were very positive and have communicated to us that if such are the practices we follow, there are no problems in people, more importantly infants, in consuming milk from our dairy. We are witness to people with milk allergy consuming our dairy’s milk and confirming they had no negative reaction to our milk.

We made it our mission to teach children about agriculture, animal love, sustainable living and ethical values. We encourage every one of you to visit our farm with your friends and family, especially children. To our satisfaction, schools started field trips and education tours to our farm.
